...explaining the Warminster Town Council organisation

Warminster is an Ancient Market Town situated on the southern edge of the Salisbury Plain approximately 18 miles form Bath and 21 Miles from Salisbury. The Town Council in its present format originates from the local Government Review of the early 1970's. Prior to this it was the Warminster Urban District Council.

The Council comprises of 12 members elected normally on a four yearly cycle. Due to recent events with the amalgamation of the old District Councils into a Unitary Authority the present elected members will serve a 6 year term. The next local elections will take place in May 2013. The Town is split into two wards East & West. Six members represent each Ward. The Council is lead by the Mayor who is currently Pip Ridout. She was voted in on the 16th May 2011 and her deputy is Rob Fryer
