Athenaeum to have disabled ramp
On Monday 23rd April, Members of Warminster Town Council’s Planning Advisory Committee voted to recommend acceptance of the required highways order needed to enable a disabled ramp to be fitted outside the Athenaeum Theatre. The proposals will mean the existing steps have to be moved forward slightly to accommodate the ramp, which will complement the work that has been done inside the Athenaeum on creating access and toilets for the disabled. The trustees of the Athenaeum will have been able to save £80,000 by completing both projects before August, when the regulations concerning reclaiming VAT on listed buildings will be changed, and this money will enable further projects to be undertaken. Councillor Nicklin, Chair of the Athenaeum Trustees, said “I am delighted that the Athenaeum will now be fully compliant with the regulations of the Disability Discrimination Act, and that all members of our community will be able to enjoy the events that take place here”.
