Pipped at the Post
Warminster Town Council’s newly refurbished Civic Centre was just pipped at the post last Thursday night at the Annual Building Excellence Awards 2012 ceremony held in Bristol. Each year Building Control Officers nominate projects for the Local Authority Building Control award, and Warminster’s Civic Centre was nominated in the Best Commercial Building category for the West of England. There were eight finalists, and the Civic Centre was up against formidable competition in the shape of the American Museum, the Holburne Museum and the Roman Baths. These multi-million pound projects were impressive, and the category was won by the Holburne Museum in Bath. The judging panel did, however, congratulate Warminster Town Council for its ‘innovation and economic conversion of an old, unsustainable building, and for breathing life back into an important community asset’.
Councillor Nicklin, who attended the awards along with bta architects and the rest of the professional team, said: ‘naturally I’m disappointed that we didn’t win, but we were matched against some really outstanding design and building works, and I’m proud that we were the only Wiltshire town to reach the final’.
