Council Elects New Mayor and Deputy
At Warminster Town Council’s annual meeting on 13th May, Councillor Paul Batchelor was appointed Mayor for the ensuing municipal year, following a unanimous vote. Councillor Andrew Davis was also unanimously voted in as Deputy Mayor. On accepting his appointment, Councillor Batchelor reflected that his 18-year ‘apprenticeship’ for the post, as both a Town and District Councillor, could possibly be one of the longest on record, surpassed only by that of HRH Prince Charles! Councillor Batchelor went on to thank all the Councillors who had just completed a six-year term of office. He stated that it takes a lot to get elected, and even more to get re-elected, and ex Councillor Chris March, who had been re-elected five times over the period 1991–2013, deserved a particular mention. Councillor Batchelor presented Chris March with the town shield in recognition of his long service.
Retiring Mayor Councillor Rob Fryer gave a vote of thanks for his year in office, commenting that he was looking forward to continuing to serve the town as a Councillor.
